Actresses and Musicians Call for Action to Restore the Gulf of Mexico
New Orleans, LA – Over six months after the largest oil catastrophe in
U.S. history began, there is still a long road to restoration for the
Gulf. BP’s oil drilling disaster is the latest, most visible evidence
of ongoing environmental destruction that threatens the Gulf
communities and cultures that have created the musical foundations of
the United States.
Please join musicians and actresses in the Media Tent at the Voodoo
Music Experience this Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 3:00pm as they call
for a full and fair recovery of the Gulf of Mexico.
The actresses, known as the Acting Outlaws, are capping a ten-day Gulf
awareness motorcycle ride from Los Angeles to Louisiana. On Sunday,
the actresses and many of the musicians will just be returning from a
wetlands and oil impacts boat tour of Lower Plaquemines Parish. The
tour will be led by
commercial/subsistence fishermen of the Atakapa Ishka tribe of Grand
Bayou Community, a native people whose traditional shrimping, oyster and
hunting grounds have been hard-hit by both BP’s crude oil and
Louisiana’s coastal wetlands crisis.
The musicians will also be releasing a musicians letter to the
President urging his administration to follow through on positive first
steps towards Gulf recovery and restoration, due in part to the unique
and important role New Orleans and the Gulf coast have had in creating
the sounds of our country.
